Percy Tau’s professional career kick off at his youth club Mamelodi Sundowns where he made his debut back in 2014 against the Soweto giants Orlando Pirates. Percy Tau’s tenure during his debut season was good but the Brazilians decided to develop his skills by loaning him to second division side Witbank Spurs.
After his loan at Witbank Spurs Tau returned to Sundowns where they would play in the CAF Champions League final and win the glorious trophy with a 3-1 win. During the 2017-18 season, Tau would have an excellent season where he scored 11 goals, helping Sundowns win the league. On that season Tau won various awards including the Footballer of the season, Player’s Player of the season.

After an excellent season Tau would catch big names in the football galaxy where he received multiple offers including his team Sundowns in order for him to stay. In the off season Tau would then choose to join EPL side Brigton & Hove Albion. Although it was never disclosed how much was the transfer fee it was rumored that it was around a whooping 3 million Euros which is still today the largest amount to be paid for a South African player.
Tau’s transfer to Brighton to kick off with a good start as there were problems relating to his permit in the UK. He was eventually loaned to the Belgian second division team Union SG where Percy would have a wonderful spell there. Percy Tau was named the Player of the season on loan at Union SG. In the following season there were still issues with the permit to play for Brighton.

The club loaned him to the Belgian Premier League side Club Brugge where he would have a good spell there.Percy Tau assisted a goal on a match against Real Madrid on October then the club later on won the league at the end of that season. On August 2020 Percy Tau was loaned again to Anderlecht where he would have a good spell scoring 4 goals in 14 appearances. In the beginning of 2021 Tau was recalled by Brighton as he was now permitted to play in the United Kingdom due to the Brexit.

His spell at Brighton didn’t last long as he only played 3 games for Brighton ending up with a single assist. During the midyear transfer window Percy Tau signed a permanent deal with Egypt’s top flight Premier league side Al Ahly where he would be reunited with former coach Pitso Mosimane. Some argued that the move was a mistake as Tau’s spell at Al Ahly hasn’t proven to be fruitful.
