Pitso Mosimane is a South African former professional football player who is currently managing UAE Pro League side Al Wahda. Mosimane is described as one of the best coaches to be ever produced in Africa boasting with lots of honors on his CV.  As a soccer player Pitso Mosimane played both in Africa and Europefor teams like Sundowns, Jomo Cosmos, Pirates, Ionikos and KFC Rita.

Pitso Mosimane’s Professional Football Career

Mosimane professional football career started at a very young age when he joined back then giants Jomo Cosmos at the age of 18. He played midfield in his entire football career playing for Cosmos then joining Sundowns after 3 years at Cosmos. He bounced back from Sundowns to Cosmos for a couple of years until he eventually joined the giants Orlando Pirates in 1989.

After shining for a year at Pirates he was recruited by European side Ionikos. He played for Ionikos for 6 years then he later moved to Belgian side KFC Rite where he would spend the rest of the season there. His club football career ended at Qatar club Al Sadd where he spent a year there. Pitso Mosimane represented the national team in 1993 when he was playing for Ionikos where he appeared for the national team on 4 occasions, scoring 1 goal.

Pitso Mosimane’s Club Coaching Career

Pitso Mosimane’s club coaching career started in 2001 when selected to be the head coach at Supersport United after Bruce Grobbelaar left the club. He coached Supersport United for about 6 and during that time in 2006 he was also the assistant coach for the South African National team. After coaching the national team he joined Mamelodi Sundowns in 2012 where he would have a wonderful spell there winning the Premier league 5 times, the CAF Champions league and more.

Some say Pitso may have felt like he had achieved everything as a coach for Sundowns and wanted a different challenge so in 2020 he left the Brazilians. In late 2020 Egyptian giants Al Ahly announced that Pitso Mosimane was going to be the head coach in their camp. At Al Ahly Pitso Mosimane again proved that he is the best in the continent leading the club to win the CAF Champions league and the CAF Super Cup back to back from 2020 to 2021.

At Al Ahly Pitso qualified for the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup finishing third place in the competition. Pitso Mosimane was also influential in the signing of the star Percy Tau as he had coached him before. After achieving everything again he decided to go outside Africa and joined Saudi Arabian First Division club Al Ahli Jeddah guiding them to their promotion to the Saudi Premier League.

It is said that the club didnt pay Pitso Mosimane and his coaching staff for a period of 6 months which resulted in coach leaving the Saudi club. Since they got promoted they have signed international stars like Roberto Firmino, Riyad Mahrez, Edourd Mendy, Sain-Maximin, Franck Kessie and more. After departing with the Saudi club he joined AUE side Al Wadha.

Pitso Mosimane’s National Coaching Career

Pitso mosimane started his coaching career at a national level when he was still there head coach in Supersport United in 2006 when he appointed as the assistant coach of the national team of South Africa.

In 2007 Mosimane was named the Caretaker of the squad then later the National team appointed 2010 World Cup South African coach Carlos Alberto Parreira  which meant that in the world cup Pisto would be the assistast coach. After the world cup Pitso Mosimane was appointed the official head coach for the national team. Mosimane coached the National team for a period of 2 years.
